Dayak Diversity

The ambience created by the Dayak culture on display permeated Bung Karno Sports Stadium at Senayan, Jakarta, on April 27-30, when provincial, regency and city administrations along with Dayak ethnic groups from all over Kalimantan joined the first Dayak Cultural Festival 2013.

The festival served as a forum to introduce the time-honored culture of the Dayak people — as part of the Indonesian nation — to the world. It will be an annual promotional event for the Dayak community in Kalimantan to present their products as well as the commodities of their regional administrations.

The festival is a collaboration between the National Dayak Communal Assembly and the Dayak Custom Council and is included in the Dayak community’s annual events. In the coming years, this festival is planned to be held alternately in Kalimantan’s provinces.

The culture and arts of the Dayak community have mostly been staged at regency, city and provincial levels, with very rare performances on national occasions, despite Kalimantan’s Dayak communities having diverse and unique features to offer.
